Curbing of the rights to press by filing a case on Senior journalist of the state and the Chief editor of Vishwanani newspaper Sri Vishweshwar Bhat over a newspaper article has been strongly condemned by Sri Akhila Havyaka Mahasabha.
It is a common practice to publish articles in media with the available material sources. It is unfair on the part of the ruling party to file a case under various sections, urging for legal action against the journalists and the newspaper, just because of an article published in the media backed by a source. It is a cause of anguish to see the fourth pillar of the Constitution i.e., the press being restricted in such manner.
The trampling of freedom of press and the rights of press sanctioned by the Constitution is condemnable. The representative body of Havyaka society Sri Akhila Havyaka Mahasabha urges the government to understand its limitations and immediately withdraw the case and to respect the freedom of press.
