Pearls of Wisdom : Grass is greener on the other side – Series of discourse by H.H. Shreemajjagadguru Shankaracharya Shree Shree Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji

Sri Samsthana

A little girl lived in a small  house on a hill top. Every day she used to open the little window and look out. She could see a small house in the hill opposite and the house shone like burnished gold. She pined to go to the golden house. She wanted to live there too.

After several years, her father bought her a bicycle. One day she went to the small house on the opposite hill. She was terribly disappointed. The house was not beautiful; in fact it was old and ugly with faded walls. No golden doors or windows. When she was about to mount the cycle to return home, she saw the house located on the opposite hill and was wonderstruck. The doors were shining like gold. It was her own house.

As Gopalakrishna Adiga, the poet, says we all turn our back on what we have and move towards things we do not possess. After going around the world we realise that our home and country are  more beautiful than rest of the world.
