Pearls of Wisdom : Put Down the Glass – Series of discourse by H.H. Srimajjagadguru Shankaracharya SriSri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji

Sri Samsthana

One day a professor held up a glass of water in the class room and asked the students to guess the weight of the water in the glass. Some students said the weight of the water would be 100 grams, some said 150 grams while a few said it could be 200 grams.

The professor further asked the students-
“What would happen if someone had to hold this glass of water the whole day?”
The students replied that at first the hand would ache, next the hand might become numb and finally the hand might paralyse.
The professor spoke again-
“There would be no pain, if this glass of water is put down, right?”
The students shouted in one voice-
“Yes, there would be no pain.”

If we carry our worries for too long, our intellect can become paralysed. There is no point in attaching too much importance to insignificant things and lose our peace of mind. We need to put down the glass called worries in life and free ourselves from pain.
