Pearls of Wisdom : Heuristic Learning – H.H. Srimajjagadguru Shankaracharya SriSri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji

Sri Samsthana

Once, the son of a thief wished to learn the trade of thieving from his father who was ageing. He asked his father to teach him the profession. The father agreed and took his son along with him to a house he planned to rob.

Father and son entered the house and when the son entered the room, the father suddenly closed the door and bolted the son inside, ran out and returned home.

The son became angry and sad  and thought-
“how to escape from this room?”
He thought of a plan. He meowed like a cat. The servant of the house woke up and thought a cat had got into the room. He came with a lamp and opened the door to let the cat out. The son pushed the door and ran out for life. People chased him. Yet he escaped and reached home.
The father said-
“you have learnt the profession of thieving. You don’t need any more lessons.”

We need to learn by doing the work. Swimming cannot be learnt by reading a book on it. We have to jump into the water. Detailed description of Jilebi will not help you to prepare it, you have to make it.
