Pearls of Wisdom : Story of an Ant – H.H. Srimajjagadguru Shankaracharya SriSri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji

Sri Samsthana

One day, a very tiny ant was carrying a heavy stick on its back . It was struggling hard to move forward. On the way it had to face several obstacles.  Somehow it overcame those problems and reached a place where there was a deep ditch. It had to cross the ditch to reach its destination.

The ant thought of a plan. It used the stick it was carrying as a bridge and crossed the ditch.

It again loaded the stick on its back, continued its journey and finally came close to its home.

The ant was residing in a small underground hole which was covered with a tiny lid like structure.  However hard the ant tried to carry the stick through this door, it could not. Greatly disappointed, it left the stick behind and descended into the hole.

We too are like the tiny ant which carried the   huge burden. Throughout our lives, with a lot struggle we accumulate material wealth. But we have to leave behind all those things .We realise the truth that,

“all things of this world are unreal, our true home is elsewhere.”

When we lead life with this awareness, we are happy, peaceful and satisfied. When we look at life from the perspective of this story, the truth dawns on us.
