Pearls of Wisdom : Two Birds – H.H. Srimajjagadguru Shankaracharya SriSri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji

Sri Samsthana

Two birds were living in a forest. They were similar in their life style, food habits and practices. One day a hunter caught them and imprisoned them in similar cages in his house.  He kept a little food and water for both the birds and went out.

One bird felt very sad and thought that it did not have the food of its choice, the water  was not from the flowing stream and the space in the cage was not adequate to fly freely. Reflecting thus, it did not eat a morsel and by evening it became so weak that it died in the cage.

The other bird had positive thoughts .It said to itself-
“I have to live, Good days will dawn.”

This optimistic bird  ate the food and drank the water.

The hunter returned home in the evening and opened the doors of the cages to let the birds free.

The bird with positive thoughts happily  flew away from the cage while the other bird  was dead on the floor of the cage.
